Philosophy of Ministry (POM)

Strategy driven ministries seek to answer the question “how do we reach and equip” while a clear POM asks “why” are we implementing these strategies. Edgewood helps entities develop a clear POM that transcends time and cultures and implement strategies that will stand the test of time.

Edgewood believes that there is no “one size fits all” template for evangelism or discipleship. The Gospel is not a program to be executed but good news to be proclaimed. Effective ministry in an ever changing culture should tailor the Gospel for individuals needing to be reached and discipled. Edgewood gives the tools not only to reach those most resistant to the Gospel but equips believers to reach and equip their spheres of influence.

All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. ¹⁹Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, ²⁰teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.

Leadership Training

Because a Biblical POM promotes the kingdom rather than a church or organization Edgewood Ministries is training pastors and leaders in other parts of the world. Edgewood is presently training pastors in Uganda and will be training pastors in 7 East African countries. As a Russian pastor once told me, “This POM allows us to minister the Gospel of Jesus Christ as Russian believers to the Russian people. Before we were trained in methodologies that are irrelevant to our context.”

Oversight and Care

There is a saying, “So goes leadership so goes the church/organization”. Edgewood trains pastors how to create a clear POM and thus viable strategies that carry out the mission of the church for any generation, demographic or culture. A POM based on Biblical principles secures the mission of the church/organization that sets the DNA to ensure its health for years to come. Edgewood is committed to ongoing oversight of churches/organizations and those that lead them. This oversight includes assessment of present practices, training in POM, oversight of new initiatives and soul care of leaders.

Activating the Local Church

The church is called to meet the needs of their respective communities. However, churches must focus their attention on the three marks of a faithful church: the preaching of the Gospel, church discipline and the right use of the sacraments. Edgewood helps leaders equip their members/staff to get out of the salt shaker into the world. We teach leaders how to help laymen identify their spheres of influence and effectively minister to them. We also teach them how to create non-profits that engage various needs of their respective communities: feeding the poor, providing Chrisitan education for the marginalized, establishing medical clinics, tutorial programs for public school, athletic programs, foster care etc.
